Orthodontics - specialization of dental medicine dealing with correction of dento - maxillary abnormalities.

The incorrect position of teeth is frequently affected by cavities and force the muscles of mastication to an extra effort that can lead to headaches and temporomandibular joints dysfunctions. Another disadvantage is the inaesthetic appearance.

The treatment of dento - maxillary abnormalities is performed using functional devices, removable and fixed appliances. Thanks to cutting-edge techniques, the dental appliances can be used at any age.
Based on the clinical and paraclinical examination (study models, radiographies), the treatment plan is established.

The removable dental braces are the following:

- palatal plate with trans palatal arch, which is applied at the level of the jaw and has an effect of dilatation;
- the monoblock which is an acrylic appliance with a dilatation effect on both jaws;
- removable space maintainers, i.e. acrylic appliances used in case of early tooth extractions of temporary teeth;
- the Invisalign dental appliances which uses several gutters by which we apply forces to the teeth progressively. They are transparent and comfortable.
- immobilisation trays;
- labial or vestibular shields are appliances which are interposed between teeth and lips or cheeks;
- lingual shield which prevents the interposition of the tongue between the teeth;

The fixed orthodontic appliances are the following:
- orthodontic appliances with classic metal brackets;
- orthodontic appliances with sapphire brackets that combine efficiency with the ideal aesthetic appearance thanks to the transparent brackets;
- the Harmony invisible dental appliance that uses the lingual technique, i.e. the brackets are collated at the level of the lingual surfaces of the teeth. The brackets and arches of this appliance are made individually based on the dental impression.
- special fixed appliances that are used for removing the bad habits;
- fixed space maintainers;
- mini-orthodontic implant is a small width screw of approximately 1.2-2 mm and is placed between the roots of two teeth. It is generally used when are insufficient teeth on the arcade and it functions as an anchor.
