Paediatric dentistry or paedodontics consists of preventing and detecting children’s dental affections.
Around the age of 6 months begins the eruption of temporary teeth (milk teeth). Their role is special:
- maintain the space for the permanent teeth and guide their eruption;
- ensures effective mastication;
- influences speech;
- allow normal bone development;

Complications of untreated cavities of the temporary teeth can lead to early extraction, thus interfering with the eruption of the permanent teeth. Because of the root resorption process, the techniques used for temporary teeth treatment are different from those used in the dental treatment of adults.
The main focus is on the prophylaxis of the dental caries, the main techniques being the fluoridation and sealing of cracks and holes from the occlusal and vertibular surfaces.

The permanent teeth appear starting with the age of 6. Between 6 and 12 years, children have a mixed dentition, that is, temporary and permanent teeth. Tooth sealing is required from the appearance of the first molars. The technique is non-invasive and is performed with cutting-edge materials.

The dental hygiene begins from the first tooth. The child’s first visit to the dental practioner is recommended around the age of 3, after all temporary teeth have erupted, before the appearance of possible toothaches.

It is very important for the child not to associate the toothaches with the visit to the dental practioner.
